Church History

Plummer Bible Church, formerly the First Congregational Church of Plummer, came into existence in 1910 when Rev. S.A. Waters visited the newly established town, secured a large tent, organized a Sunday school and conducted regular preaching services under the fir and pine trees covering the larger portion of the town site.

On November 6, 1910, the church was organized and it was incorporated in 1911.  Plans for a building were drawn up in late 1910 and two lots were purchased and cleared in 1911. Excavation began, rock and building materials were brought in and soon a church building costing about $4,000 was erected. The Pastor, S.A. Waters worked untiringly, preaching on Sundays and helping the builders from the time the rock was quarried until the building was completed.

Finding a full-time resident pastor for a small rural church has not always been easy. From 1925 until 1956 Plummer Congregational Church shared support of a resident pastor with Worley Church.

Several student pastors filled the pulpit in the early years. In later years several pastors commuted from Spokane and elsewhere to present messages on Sundays.

Two mission organizations have provided full-time pastoral support since 1978.
